Confirmed by the Senate in April 2018 to be deputy administrator, Wheeler took over as acting administrator when <\/span>Scott Pruitt resigned<\/span><\/a> in July amid investigations of widepsread ethical violations. In his 10 months at the EPA, Wheeler has:<\/span><\/p>\n Before joining the administration, Wheeler was a <\/span>fossil fuel industry insider<\/span><\/a> who helped kill bipartisan climate legislation during his time as a top Senate staffer, and most recently served as a lobbyist for the coal industry. There were also reports that he <\/span>hosted campaign fundraisers<\/span><\/a> and contributed funds to two members of the Senate Committee that held his nomination hearing and who then went on to <\/span>approve his nomination as deputy administrator<\/span><\/a>. The Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works<\/span> advanced Wheeler\u2019s nomination<\/span><\/a> Tuesday on a party-line 11-10 vote. The full Senate could vote on Wheeler this week.
