THE ISSUE<\/span><\/h4>\n

More than 10 million men and women are abused by an intimate partner each year in the U.S. In Maine, a domestic violence assault is reported to law enforcement every 1<\/span> hour and 52 minutes<\/span><\/a> and nearly half of all homicides are the <\/span>result of domestic violence<\/span><\/a>, according to the <\/span>Maine Coalition to End Domestic Violence<\/span><\/a>. Communities around the state are holding events during Domestic Violence Awareness Month in October to draw attention to intimate partner violence and rally support for prevention efforts.
