October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. <\/span>Attend one of 13 events across the state and join a social media campaign by Maine Coalition to End Domestic Violence (MCEDV).<\/b><\/p>\n [\/et_pb_blurb][et_pb_text _builder_version=”3.12.2″ border_style=”solid”]<\/p>\n PREVENTION OF GUN VIOLENCE & VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN WORKING GROUP<\/a> AND MAINE COALITION TO END DOMESTIC VIOLENCE<\/a> C2A<\/strong><\/p>\n The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports <\/a>that 1 in 4 women and 1 in 7 men have experienced domestic violence in their lifetime. More than 1 in 5 women who\u2019ve experienced domestic violence are assaulted for the first time between the ages of 11 and 17 years. Nearly half of all of homicides in Maine in 2016 were related to domestic violence, one of the highest rates in the country. According to a 2017 report from Maine\u2019s Permanent Commission on the Status of Women<\/a>, a domestic violence assault is reported every 1 hour and 47 minutes. The true rate is likely much higher, as officials say only about half of all assaults are actually reported to police.
