As of May 21, 2018, there have been <\/span>102 mass shootings in this country<\/span><\/a>. Add the hundreds of suicides, accidents, and other forms of gun violence, and you have a death toll of <\/span>more than 5,400<\/span><\/a> less than halfway through the year. These victims could just as likely be our own family, friends, and neighbors. These school shootings could just as easily happen in our own home towns. It\u2019s critical that we keep the pressure on to enact common sense gun reforms and resist the urge to go numb. June 1-3 is <\/span>#WearOrange Weekend<\/span><\/a>, and is a national effort to raise awareness about gun violence. Why orange? It\u2019s the color that Hadiya Pendleton\u2019s friends wore in her honor when she was shot and killed in Chicago at the age of 15 \u2014 just one week after performing at President Obama\u2019s 2nd inaugural parade in 2013. Since then orange has been the defining color of the gun violence prevention movement.
