In an attempt to woo back fiscal conservatives after its massive over-spending spree, the Trump Administration unveiled plans to cut $15 billion from CHIP and dozens of other programs. Tell your Members of Congress to oppose any plans that would snatch budgeted funds from vital programs.

[/et_pb_blurb][et_pb_text admin_label=”Issue, Action” _builder_version=”3.0.89″ background_layout=”light”]

Trump Administration and Federal Government Working Group C2A

To shore up support from fiscal conservatives angered by recent debt increases, the Trump Administration is employing a legislative maneuver called rescission to slash already appropriated program funding. Trump’s proposed $15 billion rescission package makes cuts to 30 programs, including $7 billion from the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), $800 million from the Medicare & Medicaid Innovation program, and $4.3 billion in loans from the Department of Energy for development of fuel efficient cars. While targeted to program funds that were left unspent from 2017, the cuts could leave some programs that fluctuate based on need severely underfunded in the event of an emergency or the kind of political infighting that can cause a program to remain unauthorized for months, as happened with CHIP earlier this year. Congress has 45 days to act on the proposal. 9 House Republicans including Bruce Poliquin rushed to co-sponsor HR 3: The Spending Cuts to Expired and Unnecessary Programs Act. Several Senate Republicans have expressed opposition to the proposal including Senator Susan Collins, uniquely positioning Mainers to take action to stop this power grab by the Administration.

Tell your Members of Congress to protect all allocated funding to vital and current programs, including CHIP.

[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][/et_pb_section][et_pb_section bb_built=”1″ _builder_version=”3.0.89″ global_module=”3386″][et_pb_row global_parent=”3386″ custom_padding=”|||30px” custom_margin=”|||” background_color=”#00417f” _builder_version=”3.0.89″ background_size=”initial” background_position=”top_left” background_repeat=”repeat” border_width_all=”4px” border_color_all=”#efb217″][et_pb_column type=”1_3″][et_pb_text admin_label=”Collins, King” global_parent=”3386″ _builder_version=”3.0.89″]

Email | Facebook | Twitter Email | Facebook | Twitter [/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=”1_3″][et_pb_text admin_label=”Pingree, Poliquin” global_parent=”3386″ _builder_version=”3.0.89″]

Email | Facebook | Twitter Email | Facebook | Twitter

[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=”1_3″][et_pb_text admin_label=”State House, Senate” global_parent=”3386″ _builder_version=”3.0.89″]

TTY: Use Maine Relay 711

Find your legislators HERE

[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][/et_pb_section][et_pb_section bb_built=”1″ background_color=”#00417f” module_class=”site-footer” _builder_version=”3.0.79″ custom_padding=”2px|0px|5px|0px” global_module=”845″][et_pb_row global_parent=”845″ make_fullwidth=”on” custom_width_px=”2600px” custom_padding=”22px||0px|” custom_margin=”|||” _builder_version=”3.0.89″ background_size=”initial” background_position=”top_left” background_repeat=”repeat” border_color_all=”#9e9e9e” module_alignment=”center”][et_pb_column type=”1_3″][et_pb_image global_parent=”845″ src=”https://www.suitupmaine.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/suitup_new_new_FLAME_horiz-1.png” _builder_version=”3.0.89″ max_width=”45%” custom_margin=”||15px|” /][et_pb_text global_parent=”845″ background_layout=”dark” _builder_version=”3.0.89″ text_font=”||||||||” text_font_size=”12px” text_text_color=”#efb217″ text_letter_spacing=”1px” text_line_height=”1.5em” custom_margin=”|||”]

Suit Up Maine is an all-volunteer grassroots group of Mainers who work to raise awareness of and advocate for policies and legislation that promote equity and equality in civil rights, social justice, health care, the environment, education, the economy, and other areas that affect the lives of all people.
