Rep. Poliquin co-sponsored the bill, which passed in the House and now moves to the Senate. Make sure Poliquin knows how you feel about him hiding his dangerous pet project in this way, and join in phone banking efforts to defeat this bill. Prevention of Gun Violence & Violence Against Women Working Group C2A

The “Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2017, co-sponsored by Bruce Poliquin, would require all states to recognize a concealed carry permit issued by any other state. All states currently allow concealed carry in some form, but the laws in each state vary widely. Some require permits and training, while others do not. Some states prohibit non-residents from carrying within their borders, while others have weaker standards, including issuing permits to convicted felons. A national concealed carry reciprocity law would essentially turn the weakest state laws into the law of the land, and would make all of us less safe. Violent crime is 13% to 15% higher in right-to-carry states than in states without such legislation, and each year 33,000 people in the US die as a result of gun violence. Everytown for Gun Safety, U.S Conference of Mayors, Americans for Responsible Solution, the Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence, the National Law Enforcement Partnership to Prevent Gun Violence, and other organizations oppose concealed carry reciprocity. In an attempt to erode opposition, the House GOP cleverly concealed their dangerous bill in a bipartisan proposal to improve our national background check system. The bill recently passed in the House, and now moves to the Senate. Gun violence prevention groups advocate opposing this bill, despite its background check companion.

[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][/et_pb_section][et_pb_section fb_built=”1″ background_color=”#00417f” module_class=”site-footer” _builder_version=”3.0.79″ global_module=”845″][et_pb_row make_fullwidth=”on” custom_width_px=”2600px” custom_padding=”1px||1px|” custom_margin=”|||” _builder_version=”3.0.79″ background_size=”initial” background_position=”top_left” background_repeat=”repeat” module_alignment=”center”][et_pb_column type=”1_3″ _builder_version=”3.0.47″ parallax=”off” parallax_method=”on”][et_pb_image src=”https://www.suitupmaine.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/suitup_new_new_FLAME_horiz-1.png” _builder_version=”3.0.89″ max_width=”45%” custom_margin=”||15px|”][/et_pb_image][et_pb_text background_layout=”dark” _builder_version=”3.0.79″ text_font_size=”12px” text_text_color=”#efb217″ text_letter_spacing=”1px” text_line_height=”1.5em” max_width=”85%” custom_margin=”|||”]

Suit Up Maine is an all-volunteer grassroots group of Mainers who work to raise awareness of and advocate for policies and legislation that promote equity and equality in civil rights, social justice, health care, the environment, education, the economy, and other areas that affect the lives of all people.
