z_index_tablet=&#8221;0&#8243;]<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.suitupmaine.org\/trump-administration-and-federal-government\/\">Trump Administration &amp; Federal Govt Working Group<\/a> C2A<\/strong><\/p>\n<h4>\u00a0<\/h4>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #efb217;\">THE ISSUE<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Despite<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.latimes.com\/politics\/la-fi-gop-tax-plan-20171110-htmlstory.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> some differences<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> between the House and Senate bills, both give massive tax breaks to the wealthy and pay for them by cutting important programs like Medicaid, Medicare, and Pell grants, or by<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.indivisible.org\/resource\/trump-tax-scam-bad\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> increasing the taxes<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> paid by the poor and middle classes. Here are a few more awful things you may NOT have known about the bill:<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>WEAPONIZES CHURCHES:<\/strong> By repealing<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/l.facebook.com\/l.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fthehill.com%2Fpolicy%2Ffinance%2F358447-gop-tax-bill-would-allow-churches-to-endorse-political-candidates&amp;h=ATNNUoi0uyMxu58HT9bgfoaVUyQmFAWedp2Ucz-UiPCwc1TZrPJc1t90XsHB1v7EonL3P6r-_WzuMftBrgonYbgNwGyErAj2SEVg5M9iCNctbIbd8DtTb_xrY2yndRJZqD7xwq_zLw\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the Johnson Amendment<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, tax-exempt religious institutions and churches will now be able to promote and endorse political candidates.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>ADDS TRUMP JUDGES:<\/strong> This bill conceals a complete <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/opinions\/conservatives-have-a-breathtaking-plan-for-trump-to-pack-the-courts\/2017\/11\/21\/b7ce90d4-ce43-11e7-9d3a-bcbe2af58c3a_story.html?utm_term=.f9962683327c\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">remake the federal judiciary<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that will create hundreds of new federal judgeships (about half the federal bench) that will be appointed by Trump. It also eliminates 158 administrative law judgeships in federal agencies (positions belonging to career public servants) and replaces them with judges appointed by Trump to lifetime appointments.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>GIFTS TO RICH TRUMP APPOINTEES:<\/strong> Trump\u2019s rich appointees, required to put their assets in mutual funds or blind trusts to avoid conflicts of interest while in office, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.propublica.org\/article\/tax-plan-mega-gift-richest-trump-appointees\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">won\u2019t ever have to pay taxes on any gains in those investments<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, even when they leave office, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> their heirs would no longer have to pay any tax on the amount they inherit in excess of $5.5 million ($11M for married filers).<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>INCREASES TAXES: <\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/trump-gop-tax-reform-bill-analysis-reviews-text-2017-11\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">More than 50% of Americans will see a tax increase<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by 2027.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>NO ECONOMIC GROWTH:<\/strong> 41 out of 42 economists surveyed by the Chicago\u2019s Booth School of Business said <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/trump-gop-tax-reform-bill-analysis-reviews-text-2017-11\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the plan will not increase economic growth<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>INCREASES DEFICIT:<\/strong> A Penn-Wharton budget model found that the bill will <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/budgetmodel.wharton.upenn.edu\/issues\/2017\/11\/20\/the-senate-tax-cuts-and-jobs-act-amended-111517-static-revenue-effects\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">increase the federal deficit by $1.327 trillion<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> over the first 10 years after it becomes law. Even when factoring in the economic boost from the tax cuts, the bill will still <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/budgetmodel.wharton.upenn.edu\/issues\/2017\/11\/21\/the-senate-tax-cuts-and-jobs-act-amended-111517-dynamic-effects-on-the-budget-and-the-economy\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">add $1.271 trillion in debt<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>HURTS THE POOR:<\/strong> The most recent CBO score revealed that the poor would <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/wonk\/wp\/2017\/11\/26\/senate-gop-tax-bill-hurts-the-poor-more-than-originally-thought-cbo-finds\/?hpid=hp_hp-top-table-main_cbo-tax-915pm%3Ahomepage%2Fstory&amp;utm_term=.8245d7dee0bd\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">fare even worse<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> than previously thought, primarily due to massive cuts to government aid for health care.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #efb217;\">THE ACTION<\/span><\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>CALL SUSAN COLLINS EVERY DAY THIS WEEK<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and tell her that these elements of the tax plan should convince her to oppose this bill. <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/thehill.com\/policy\/finance\/360212-collins-says-shes-still-trying-to-change-senate-tax-bill\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Collins has expressed only mild concern<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> about the devastating effects this bill will have on Mainers. Urge her to remain consistent in her message of opposing legislation that cuts taxes on the wealthy by slashing health care funding.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Thank Senator<\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/bangordailynews.com\/2017\/11\/11\/politics\/the-process-stinks-angus-king-speaks-out-on-gop-tax-plans\/\"><b> Angus King<\/b><\/a> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">for being outspoken about the damage this bill would cause, and urge him to work with colleagues to make sure the Johnson Amendment is NOT
