Every day that Congress fails to pass a clean DREAM Act, 122 young immigrants lose their DACA protection and become exposed to deportation. Contact your MoC and tell them “NO CLEAN DREAM ACT, NO BUDGET!” and to get to work on passing S. 1615 in the Senate and H.R. 3440 in the House.

[/et_pb_blurb][et_pb_text _builder_version=”3.0.89″ background_layout=”light”]

Trump Administration & Federal Government Working Group and Indivisible C2A

After announcing the impending termination of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, Trump later unveiled an outrageous list of hard-line demands for having it reinstated. DACA allows undocumented immigrants who were brought to the U.S. before the age of 16 (known collectively as DREAMers) to remain in the country for 2 years to attend school or work, with an opportunity to renew for 2 additional years if they meet certain requirements. Now nearly 800,000 young people—including children—are at risk of immediate deportation. Maine is currently home to 110 DREAMers, who collectively contribute $256,000 in state and local taxes each year. The bipartisan Dream Act of 2017 (S. 1615) would support lawful permanent residence to undocumented immigrants who came to the U.S. before the age of 18 who meet strict requirements. Rep. Chellie Pingree is a co-sponsor of the House’s companion bill (H.R. 3440). The new demands from the White House, which Democrats reject, hold these DREAMers hostage in order to fund a border wall, eliminate sanctuary cities, increase the ICE deportation force, and punish new immigrant children. Though there has been little movement on the bills, the looming Dec. 22 deadline for a budget resolution could serve as a pressure point for Republicans who don’t want to risk a government shutdown.

.

[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][/et_pb_section][et_pb_section bb_built=”1″ background_color=”#00417f” module_class=”site-footer” _builder_version=”3.0.79″ custom_padding=”2px|0px|5px|0px” global_module=”845″][et_pb_row global_parent=”845″ make_fullwidth=”on” custom_width_px=”2600px” custom_padding=”22px||0px|” custom_margin=”|||” _builder_version=”3.0.89″ background_size=”initial” background_position=”top_left” background_repeat=”repeat” border_color_all=”#9e9e9e” module_alignment=”center”][et_pb_column type=”1_3″][et_pb_image global_parent=”845″ src=”https://www.suitupmaine.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/suitup_new_new_FLAME_horiz-1.png” _builder_version=”3.0.89″ max_width=”45%” custom_margin=”||15px|” /][et_pb_text global_parent=”845″ background_layout=”dark” _builder_version=”3.0.89″ text_font=”||||||||” text_font_size=”12px” text_text_color=”#efb217″ text_letter_spacing=”1px” text_line_height=”1.5em” custom_margin=”|||”]

Suit Up Maine is an all-volunteer grassroots group of Mainers who work to raise awareness of and advocate for policies and legislation that promote equity and equality in civil rights, social justice, health care, the environment, education, the economy, and other areas that affect the lives of all people.
