THE ISSUE

THE ACTION

The House Appropriations Bill eliminates the Title X program, which provides basic healthcare such as contraception and cancer screenings to nearly 4 million low-income people, including 20,000 Mainers. Urge Representatives Pingree and Poliquin to support this program that provides vital health services and prevented nearly 300,000 abortions in 2015 alone.

Created in 1970 with broad bi-partisan support, Title X (Title Ten) is the only federal grant program focused entirely on providing family planning and reproductive health services to low-income and uninsured patients, including those who don’t qualify for Medicaid. The program provides contraception, cancer screenings, pregnancy testing and counseling, testing and treatment for sexually transmitted diseases, clinic personnel training, family planning research, community outreach/education, among other services.

Contact Representatives Chellie Pingree (D-1st District) and Bruce Poloquin (R-2nd District) and ask them to protect Title X programs. (Sample Script Below)

My name is ____, and I’m a constituent from _____. [Let the staffer know if you voted for the congress(wo)man] Can you tell me if the Congress(wo)man has had a chance to review the current House Appropriations Bill? Has he/she called for the continuation of funding for the Title X(ten) program? I, along with the majority of Americans support Title X family planning program these funds provide. In 2015, clinics receiving Title X funding prevented nearly 300,000 abortions and reduced the teen pregnancy rate by 44%. In 2010, 25% of women who received contraceptive care and 10% who received pap smear for cancer screening got that care at a Title X clinic. For every dollar invested in family planning, Medicaid saves $4 in pregnancy related costs. I want the current appropriations bill to continue funding Title X and ask Congress(wo)man______ to make a bold public statement in support of the program, moving forward.

","sfsi_plus_gutenberg_show_text_before_share":"
"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paywalled_content":false,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false
[6,5

post-147","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-trump","category-health-care-reproductive-rights
