2020: Here Comes the Change
Maine voters voted for change in 2018, flipping the governor’s seat, the Maine Senate, and the U.S. House seat in CD2. We’re ready to do it again in 2020 in the U.S. Senate and the White House. But first, a look back at the work in 2019 by Maine’s many progressive grassroots groups and citizen activists.
HUMANITARIAN CRISIS IN YEMEN: End U.S. Support for Saudi-Backed War
Trump has vetoed a bipartisan resolution to end U.S. support for the war in Yemen, which has produced what the United Nations calls the world’s worst humanitarian crisis in 100 years. QUICK ACTION: Ask Representatives Pingree and Golden and Senators King and Collins to override Trump’s veto.
PROTECT OUR WATERS: Oppose Trump’s “Dirty Water Rule”
The Trump administration has proposed widespread rollbacks to clean water protections, jeopardizing wetlands and drinking water for nearly half a million Mainers and millions of Americans. PROTECT TITLE IX: Oppose Protection Rollbacks for Student Survivors
The Trump administration has issued new Title IX regulations that would make it harder for students who are sexually assaulted to report the assaults. More than 100,000 comments were submitted during the public comment period on the rule, with the vast majority in opposition. QUICK ACTION: Stay tuned for updates and ask Reps. Pingree and Golden to support 3 bills in the House that protect Title IX.
WE’RE STILL HERE: Maine Persists 2018
In 2018, Maine’s progressive grassroots and advocacy groups held more than 50 statewide rallies, marches and protests; made thousands of calls to our MoCs and legislators; and knocked on tens of thousands of doors to get out the vote. We’ve put together a video highlighting these and many other ways Mainers showed up for justice, human rights, and democracy over the past year.
