THE ISSUE
More than 10 million men and women are abused by an intimate partner each year in the U.S. In Maine, a domestic violence assault is reported to law enforcement every 1 hour and 52 minutes and nearly half of all homicides are the result of domestic violence, according to the Maine Coalition to End Domestic Violence. Communities around the state are holding events during Domestic Violence Awareness Month in October to draw attention to intimate partner violence and rally support for prevention efforts. See below for a list of events and support centers.
