Morning Consult released its latest polling data on sitting U.S. senators today, and it isn’t good news for Maine’s Sen. Susan Collins (R). SUPPORT ERPO BILL: Reduce Suicide & Domestic Violence Gun Deaths
Last year’s “ERPO” bill was vetoed by Gov. LePage, but a new bill, LD 1312, has just been introduced. Extreme Risk Protection Orders reduce gun-related suicides and domestic violence homicides by temporarily suspending access to firearms for people who are a danger to themselves or others.

HANDS OFF CHIP: Oppose Plan to Slash $15 Billion from Vital Programs
In an attempt to woo back fiscal conservatives after its massive over-spending spree, the Trump Administration unveiled plans to cut $15 billion from CHIP and dozens of other programs.
QUICK ACTION: Tell your Members of Congress to oppose any plans that would snatch budgeted funds from vital programs.
MEDICAID EXPANSION: Support bill to fund Medicaid expansion
Medicaid expansion becomes the law of the land July 2, expanding critical health care to 70,000 Mainers. But Gov. LePage has stalled on funding the state’s share of expansion. UPDATE 4/19: Republicans chose to leave Augusta before their work was done. A special session may be called by House and Senate leadership. QUICK ACTION: Contact your legislators and tell them you expect them to finish the work we sent them to Augusta to do, including voting YES on LD 837.
DEFEND CLEAN CAR STANDARDS: Oppose Changes to Auto Efficiency Regs
The Trump Administration has taken the first step toward weakening fuel efficiency standards designed to reduce greenhouse-gas emissions, which have been linked to climate change. Submit a public comment to the EPA by October 5 in support of existing clean car standards.
RENEWABLE ENERGY: Go Green in Your Home or Business
Many of Maine’s utility companies offer residential and business electricity customers the option to switch some or all of their electricity to a green power source. Choose the option that best suits your home, business or nonprofit, to maximize demand of clean, renewable energy, while reducing your carbon footprint.
SAVE THE SOLAR BILL: Urge an Override of LePage’s Veto
The Maine Legislature will vote Thursday, July 20, to override Gov. LePage’s veto of the popular and bipartisan solar bill LD 1504. Thank legislators who voted in support of the bill and ask them to hold strong, and urge those who voted against LD 1504 to support it now.

THE BOYFRIEND LOOPHOLE: Close it to Protect Victims of Domestic Violence
Deadly loopholes in our federal gun laws allow stalkers and domestic abusers to have guns simply because they are not married to their victims, even though women are just as likely to be killed by a dating partner as by a spouse.
QUICK ACTION: Ask your MoC to sign on as co-sponsors to legislation that will close “The Boyfriend Loophole” (S.1539 in the Senate and H.R. 3207 in the House).
CONCEALED CARRY RECIPROCITY: Vote Imminent
Cleverly concealed inside a bill that strengthens background checks is the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act that turns the weakest state laws on concealed weapons into the law of the land. Rep. Poliquin co-sponsored the bill, which passed in the House and now moves to the Senate. Make sure Poliquin knows how you feel about him hiding his dangerous pet project in this way, and join in phone banking efforts to defeat this bill.
STOP DOMESTIC VIOLENCE: Take Part in Domestic Violence Awareness Month
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Attend one of 13 events across the state and join a social media campaign by Maine Coalition to End Domestic Violence (MCEDV).
